Introduction to Ficus and Artocarpus

The Moraceae family includes two economically important genera: Ficus (fig trees) and Artocarpus (including jackfruit and breadfruit). Ficus species are among the most diverse and ecologically important plants, with over 800 species worldwide. Artocarpus species, including jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) and breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis), are vital tropical plants that provide nutritious food and support millions of livelihoods.

The Fig Genome Database (FigGD) provides comprehensive genomic resources for both Ficus and Artocarpus species, including high-quality genome sequences, functional annotations, Gene Ontology and KEGG pathways. It offers user-friendly bioinformatics tools and is freely accessible to support research on genetic diversity, evolution, and sustainable utilization of these economically important species.
